SpicyIP Events: Free Online Advanced International Certificate Course on IP Asset Management for Business Success [Register by May 9]

We are pleased to announce that the registration for Session 2 of a free online advanced international certificate course on IP Asset Management for Business Success is currently open. The course is jointly created and managed by WIPO, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA).The deadline for registration for this session is May 9, 2018. Step 1  :  Online Courses (IP Panorama + DL 450) (April – July)

Overview

The free online courses are composed of two parts: KIPA’s IP Panorama and WIPO’s DL-450 course. Two, 6-week sessions of IP Panorama will be offered followed by one, 6-week session of WIPO DL-450.

  • Total Duration: 4 months
  • Number of sessions: 2 + 1
  • Number of sessions require to take: 1 IP Panorama Session + 1 DL-450 Session
  • Length of IP Panorama session: 6 weeks
  • Cost: Free

Procedure

IP Panorama:  After making an IP Discovery account and registering for one of the class sessions, you will gain access to the course home page. Here you will find the class news page, a forum, a FAQs section, an orientation guide, and the class modules. There are a total of thirteen (13) modules uploaded in VoD format, each varying in length. As you progress through each module, you will accumulate class attendance points which will count towards your certificate requirements.  As this is an AICC course, there will be a cumulative final exam which tests everything you have learned.

Certificate

There are two requirements that must be met to pass the IP Discovery component of the AICC course:

  • Final Exam: A passing grade of 60% or higher
  • Class Attendance: 80% or higher

Once you have successfully completed these 2 course requirements, you will receive an official AICC certificate jointly issued from WIPO, KIPO, KAIST, and KIPA.

DL 450: All participants who successfully complete IP Panorama will receive a link to register for DL-450 through WIPO Academy, to continue the program. An overall course grade of 70% or higher is needed in order to move proceed to the next step.

Step 2  :  IP Essay Contest

Essay: The essay contest is the final component of WIPO’s DL-450 Exam. Participants who have completed Step 1 and would like to compete for a chance to win an all-expenses paid scholarship to attend the face-to-face offline intensive course in Seoul, South Korea are welcome to join.

Scholarship:  International participants (approx. 17). Top submissions will be notified and formally invited to fly to Seoul, South Korea to attend the offline course for absolutely free on a WIPO-sponsored scholarship. This includes a round trip plane ticket, KIPA-designated accommodation, a city tour, and several meals throughout the duration of the program.  Domestic participants will be notified separately and will also be awarded the opportunity for free accommodation if needed.

Timetable

  • Writing Period: July 14 – July 22

Participants will be presented with an IP essay motivation question, up to 4 DL-450 questions, and an IP essay TRIPs question.

  • Evaluation Period: July 23 – Aug 25

The best written entries will be selected, and IP Essay Contest participants will be notified of the results.

Step 3  :  Offline Course (October 23 – 26)

Background: The invaluable information presented in this 4-day program is a culmination of all the practical theories presented in the IP Panorama curriculum. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the impact IPRs have on everyday business. Participating in the offline course is a unique way for individuals in any field to discover the importance of IPRs while exploring a new country and its culture.

Program: Learn from the best. Each year, the program consists of a variety of engaging events held by experienced IP professionals, distinguished university IP professors, and leading administrators from within WIPO.
All of the technical topics are presented in the online course are presented in unique lectures and activities which make the program a rewarding experience for all.

The offline course seeks to bring each topic to life by combining an array of different learning formats including lectures, case-studies, mini-negotiations, and group discussions. The material varies slightly year to year, but the fundamentals of several topics are covered including: Intellectual Capital Management, IP Licensing, Patent Litigation, Finance, and Branding.

At the end of the course, you will be awarded with a certificate of completion at the closing ceremony.

Enjoy: There will be plenty of time to relax. There will be coffee breaks in between, and lunch and dinner will provided on each day as well. Joining the offline course is a great way to extend your personal network in an international environment by meeting people from all over the world.

Explore Korea: At the end of the second day, you’ll be taken on a free, scenic tour of Seoul’s most prominent heritage sites. This will include exploring Korea’s grand history through its majestic palaces, strolling down the labyrinth-like streets of the Insadong district, and concluding it all with a breathtaking night view of Seoul in Namsan Tower.

At the end of each day, the rest of the time is yours to enjoy.

Accommodations: Scholarship winners from Step 2 of the AICC program will stay in a hotel next to where the program will be held.
